First Significant Nor'easter In Years Bearing Down On Region

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Weather Service continues to have Winter Storm Warnings posted throughout much of the area.

There have been some changes to the forecast during the overnight hours.

Forecasters say this nor'easter is expected to be a quick-hitting storm, while its path has shifted slightly south extending the posted warnings southward to include Bristol and Plymouth counties in southeastern MA.

Snow amounts and the schedule of the storm have also been adjusted.

A dusting - 2" of snow is expected along the MA/NH border, northern Worcester County and western MA. 2" - 4" inches of snow are expected in Boston, Worcester, and along the Mass Pike, Middlesex, and Essex County. 4-8" are expected southeastern MA through Cape Cod and the Islands.

The best chance for more than 8" will be from Plymouth to Providence and areas south to the South Coast and Upper Cape. This is where the most intense bands of snow will be during the day today.

The highest wind gusts will be over Cape Cod and the Islands with gusts as high as 55 mph expected.

Temperatures will be dropping throughout the day causing a flash freeze north to south as we get into the evening hours.
