BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — United Airlines has decided to make a strict rule change for those who don’t wear headphones.

A new rule was tucked away in the airline's Contract of Carriage in February, which says passengers who aren’t wearing headphones while listening to audio or video are subject to removal from the flight. In some cases, travelers could even be banned from United.

Some travelers at Boston Logan don’t see much of a problem with the new rule, like Nick, whose had some unpleasant experiences.

“I’ve been annoyed by someone playing music out loud before,” said Nick. “It’s really not that bad of a rule.”

Others have different feelings about the rule, calling it overkill from United. Leila said a big part should depend on the content being viewed.

“It depends on what they're watching or listening to, because if it’s in my interest, I'm like, ‘hey, let’s share that screen,” said Leila. “I don’t think they should be banned, but I definitely think they should get a warning.”

Aleka, who flew from California, said there could be other reasons behind not using headphones.

“Some people are hard of hearing. So maybe they haven’t thought that through too well, because I think there might be reasons that people [listen without headphones],” said Aleka. “I think people who want quiet, they’re going to have headphones anyway.”
