BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A federal grand jury indicted a New York woman for allegedly smuggling 12 bricks of cocaine into Boston Logan Airport last month, according to the U.S. District Attorney’s office.

Stacey Medina Guzman, 24, faces three federal charges, including one count of importing five kilograms or more of cocaine, one count of possession with intent to distribute and one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

According to federal prosecutors, Medina Guzman flew into Logan from the Dominican Republic on Feb. 4. She was allegedly caught with more than 8 kilograms of cocaine hidden in duty-free alcohol boxes at the airport’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“A search of the bag allegedly revealed that the two boxes packaged as Chivas Regal alcohol had been resealed with glue,” U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Leah Foley said in a statement.

If found guilty, Medina Guzman faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with a fine of up to $10 million.

No word on her next court date.
