BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority announced on Thursday that the Green Line B Branch will be shut down for nine days as crews work to make improvements.

In the announcement, the agency said service changes would also be made to Red, Green, Fitchburg, Haverhill, Lowell, Newburyport/Rockport, New Bedford/Fall River, Greenbush, and Kingston Commuter Rail lines in April.

The MBTA said that at the end of April, crews will work on several critical projects around the B branch with a goal of infrastructure improvements, continuing the Green Line Train Protection System installation, and other necessary maintenance work to maintain the system.

Suspensions on the Green Line will include services between Kenmore and Boston College from April 22-30, and service will be suspended between Copley and Boston College on the B branch from April 25 – 26. The MBTA said free shuttle buses will be available during the shutdowns.

The changes also include supporting Columbia Junction Signal Modernization, the North Station Terminal Area Signal System Improvement Project, Old Colony Commuter Rail Line system maintenance, and the improvements on the Green Line.

More information on the service changes can be found on the MBTA website here.
