BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Massachusetts businesses begin gradually reopening, Gov. Baker is urging employers to continue allowing staff to work from home whenever possible.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Gov. Baker said there have already been commitments to extend long-term work-from-home policies from dozens of companies in the Commonwealth.
"Two weeks ago, we announced the list of over 50 employers representing more than 150,000 employees in Greater Boston," said Baker. "[They] have committed to having significant portions of their workforce working remotely for the rest of the Spring, and in some cases beyond that."
As part of Phase one of the state's reopening plan, businesses including hair salons, car washes, and drive-in movie theaters were able to open back up as of Monday 25th May.
General office spaces outside the city of Boston were also allowed to bring back 25 percent of their maximum office capacity, but Gov. Baker said employers are being strongly encouraged to allow staff to continue to work remotely if they can.
"We know that some employees will need to get to their workplaces for a fixed start time each day, and for others telework is simply not an option," said Baker. "But for the rest, we're asking employers to continue to consider having employees who can successfully work from home, to continue to work from home."
