BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Award-winning musician Chad Stokes is getting set for a night of protest music in Cambridge.
He is hosting an event at the Sanders Theatre on Saturday, titled “Democracy In Kind, a Night of protest music." It will feature songs from his solo career and songs from his bands DISPATCH, State Radio, and the Pintos.
Stokes has even been fielding requests from fans ahead of the big night.
"It’s more prep than the usual show, because it means I got to stay loyal to what people want to hear, and a lot of it is songs I haven’t played in a while,” said Stokes. “It’s cool that when we played back then, it sank in enough with people that that’s the stuff they want to hear.”
The event is part of the 18th annual Calling All Crows weekend, a non-profit organization co-founded by Stokes and his wife, Sybil Gallagher, in 2008, dedicated to engaging music fans around women’s issues both at home and abroad.
The organization has allowed thousands of music fans to volunteer countless hours and has donated over one million dollars to support feminist community organizations. Stokes said Gallagher has been a huge help behind the event and organization.
“She’s the brains and the brawn behind the whole thing,” said Stokes. “This community means so much to us, it’s always been our touchstone year after year.”
