BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The first recreational pot shop has opened in Boston, years after the state voted to legalize marijuana.
Pure Oasis, which opened up in Dorchester Monday, says the company is invested in the community, according to Director of Operations Mike Whittaker.
"I mean this community has obviously been negatively affected by the war on drugs for years now," Whittaker said. "We're just doing it how we know how to do it: hiring from within the community, making the face of Pure Oasis look and represent Grove Hall and to be able to give back to it is truly a blessing."
However, not all residents are open to the new commerce in the neighborhood despite its an "economic empowerment" applicant status.
"They don't need it here, they really don't, it's just going to cause more crime," one resident said. "I couldn't find parking, it's not fair to the people who live on this street, you have people with kids."
However, another resident said, "I'm just excited to see what they've got going on for the neighborhood."
Pure Oasis currently does not offer delivery for their products, but their website does offer a menu of items online so customers can plan ahead.
