Do you have a favorite place to walk?

While there are a handful of picturesque trails scattered throughout Massachusetts, only one is revered as the best place to hike.

Be it beautiful lake views, a glimpse at a glowing sunset sinking below a distant mountain range, or a birds-eye view of the sunrise making the dew painted on the leaves of a hundred trees sparkle around you, something about this trail sets it apart from the rest, so much so, that it's become a Massachusetts recommendation.

Some trails are traversed for their history, while others are admired for their peaceful lack of crowds. Regardless of why you choose to hike a trail, there is one glorious Massachusetts gem you must add to your list!

According to a list compiled by Backpacker Magazine, the best hike in Massachusetts is the 3.5-mile Mt. Wachusett summit trail.

Here's what Backpacker Magazine (via hiker Aloyah Isa) had to say about the absolute best place to hike in the state:

"This short and satisfying hike to the summit of one of central Massachusetts’ round mountaintops is our family favorite. Mt. Wachusett isn’t the tallest, longest, or hardest trail in the state: It is remarkable instead for never disappointing, no matter how many times we repeat it. It’s not a strenuous hike, where all the wonder gets squandered from exhaustion. Instead this trail impresses itself gently upon us, and we love it more every time we hike it. As you gain elevation, clamber up ledges of exposed schist to find yourself in the comforting shelter of some of the oldest forest in the state. Red maple, sugar maple, yellow birch, red spruce, and eastern hemlock—some nearly 400 years old—keep you company on the climb."
