Dallas Police Respond To 'Incident' At Cheerleading Competition

Dallas police responded to an incident at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center on Saturday (March 1), where the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) All-Star Championship was taking place. The competition, which draws thousands of participants and spectators from across the country, was disrupted due to reports of a safety concern.

The Dallas Police Department urged people to avoid the area near the convention center and the Omni Hotel. A family reunification center was established at the Dallas Police Headquarters at 1400 Botham Jean Boulevard. The police department stated that they were investigating the situation but did not confirm any reports of shots being fired.

"We can confirm that there was no active shooter at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center," the department said in a statement on X. "More information will follow when it becomes available."

The convention center was evacuated as a precaution, and public transportation in the area experienced delays due to the large police presence. The Red and Blue Line trains bypassed the Convention Center Station, with shuttle buses provided for affected passengers.

KENS 5 noted that the incident involved a reported altercation between parents, but police sources confirmed that no shots were fired. Varsity Brands, the organization running the NCA cheer competition, suspended activities for the day and is working with law enforcement to ensure safety before resuming the event.
