BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Winter will hit early and hit hard in the Northeast, according to Accuweather's newly-released predictions for winter 2023/2024. Boston could see upwards of 40 inches of snow.
Starting as soon as November, experts at the site forecast more powder along the 95 corridor than we saw last year. Meterologist Paul Pastelok says the window for big nor'easters "will open in late January through February which could dish out hefty snowfall amounts on Boston" and other cities in the Northeast.
After a relatively dry winter 2022/2023 in most parts of the region, Accuweather predicts a very different season ahead, partly due to El Niño conditions.
"Last winter, Boston received only 12.4 inches of snow, New York City measured only 2.3 inches, and a snow shovel wasn't even needed in Philadelphia, where just 0.3 of an inch accumulated throughout the entirety of the winter. Much higher snowfall amounts are predicted this year, with AccuWeather long-range meteorologists forecasting 38-44 inches in Boston, 18-26 inches in New York City and 16-24 inches in Philadelphia -- all around the historical average."
In other words, "get your shovel ready."
