BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The 130th Boston Marathon kicks off today. Here's what you need to know about the event.
The race is set to start in Hopkinton, with the course traveling through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, and Brookline, ending in Boston.
30,000 people from all around the world are set to race in the marathon this year. Wheelchair Men racers begin the first wave of the race at 9:06 a.m. From there, the starting times are as follows: Wheelchair Women at 9:09 a.m., Handcycles/Duos at 9:30 a.m., Pro Men at 9:37 a.m., Pro Women at 9:47 a.m., Para Athletics Division at 9:50 a.m., Wave 1 at 10 a.m., Wave 2 at 10:15 a.m., Wave 3 at 10:28 a.m., Wave 4 at 10:41 a.m., Wave 5 at 11:01 a.m. and finally Wave 6 at 11:21 a.m.

The city is encouraging spectators to use the MBTA as several road closures are in effect along the course at various times throughout the day.
According to the Boston Athletic Association, "Spectators are not allowed to enter the course, run alongside athletes, or impede athletes in any manner. Any person on the course without an official race bib or accreditation will be directed to leave the course immediately."
