DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Health fads come and go, but red light therapy might be forever.

Red Light Therapy is gaining popularity among skin and health enthusiasts. Kayla Robideau, director of the Restoration Lounge at the Dedham Health and Athletic Complex, says studies show red light therapy can help with anti-aging, muscle recovery, pain, and inflammation.

"It's LED lights that penetrate through the skin into the muscle belly. They can even penetrate deep into the bone," Robideau said.

It uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the body's natural recovery process. The lounge offers a performance and anti-aging selection, as well as options for pain and immunity. The anti-aging option can boost collagen production, leading to firmer skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles.

"It can either just be superficial on the skin, or it can be deep into the muscle belly. It can even penetrate deep into the bone," she explained.

Dark glasses protect your eyes from the bright lights, and Robideau says it's very relaxing.

"It's super warm, and with the fan on and with my imagination, I feel like I'm relaxing on the beach."

The Restoration Lounge is doing a two-week free unlimited trial.
