STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Going old school just got easier for gamers in Stoughton.

GameStop closed its Stoughton location just months ago, but now customers are cracking open the cases of retro video games once again with the Geek Boutique open for business. They sell everything from games and comics to DVDs, Blu-rays, and manga. They also offer repairs, and customers can still sell items for store credit similar to those at GameStop.

Manager Megan Lombard says this is different from an antique store because what's considered retro in gaming isn't actually that old.

"Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are considered retro now," she said. "Even though we grew up with it, they're past that dateline that those are considered retro. And eventually, PS4 and the same thing with Xbox 1, they're right on that line to being retro, especially now that they're not going to be making games for it anymore."

While Lombard admits it's more convenient to just download games in this digital world, she believes getting a physical copy is much safer on the finances.

"The one downside about digital is once you buy it, you're stuck with it. So if you don't like the game, you can't resell it, you can't do a return for it compared to what we can do."

In addition to the new Stoughton location, another Geek Boutique just opened in Littleton.
