One year after they began the process of drafting rules limiting China's ability to acquire new technology, the Commerce Department still hasn't put pen to paper.
Now, the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate are giving a nudge. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Tom Cotton sent a letter Monday to Sec. Wilbur Ross saying "it is imperative that the department act expeditiously to develop guidance around these technologies to prevent them from being exported to our military competitors."
Reuters reports the Commerce Department sought public comment to help draft the rules last November. However, none have yet been proposed. The Senators acknowledge the "challenges" in their letter.
