Man Accused Of Assault Charges Free After Just One Year On House Arrest

An air-traffic controller in Anchorage, Alaska faced assault charges last year after he was accused of strangling a woman unconscious and masturbating on her. He was able to enter a plea deal and now, he's free.

Justin Schneider, 33, ended up spending no time in jail and only served one year on house arrest. Originally, he was intended to face four felony charges and a misdemeanor charge of "offensive contact with fluids".

The victim, a stranger to Schneider, told police that he "told her that he wasn't really going to kill her, that he needed her to believe she was going to die so that he could be sexually fulfilled," according to case documents. This was after he offered her a free ride from a gas station that she had accepted.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Grannik spoke in court on Wednesday, stating he "hopes" that Schneider doesn't re-offend and violate his deal.

"I would like the gentleman to be on notice that that is what his, his one pass -- it's not really a pass, but given the conduct, one might consider that it is," Grannik said.

Schneider later made a statement to the court, commenting that he felt the process had given him a "year to really work on myself and become a better person, and a better husband, and a better father."
