Vandalized Castle Island WII Monuments Starting To Be Cleaned

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Monuments that were vandalized with an oily substance are starting to be cleaned. The two monuments are part of the World War II Memorial on Castle Island.

A power washer was used on the monuments that had been covered with a mixture to help clean the granite pieces that had been vandalized.

“All it is is you mix a powder with this, called marble poultice, with asphalt and tar remover liquid. And then you put an overcoat paper over it,” monument cleaner Ralph Morgan said. “As it slowly dries, it wicks out the deep-seated oil stain.”
