Nancy Pelosi Honored With Award At JFK Library Sunday

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was honored at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library Sunday night. She received the 2019 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

According to the John F. Kennedy Library website, Pelosi was awarded “for putting the national interest above her party’s interest to expand access to health care for all Americans and then, against a wave of political attacks, leading the effort to retake the majority and elect the most diverse Congress in our nation’s history.”

During her first speakership, Pelosi worked to pass the Affordable Care Act in 2010.

“Speaker Pelosi leads with strength, integrity and grace under pressure — using her power to protect the most vulnerable of our citizens,” former ambassador Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy, said in a statement.

The award, which was first created in 1989, is meant to “recognize a public official (or officials) at federal, state, or local level whose actions demonstrate the qualities of politically courageous leadership,” according to the library’s website.
