Martin Richard Foundation's Spring Service Day Held In Dorchester

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of people in Dorchester participated in Spring Service Day for the Martin Richard Foundation.

Service projects happened in several locations across Dorchester on Sunday. Volunteers filled up backpacks, assembled emergency hero kits, and beautified public spaces.

Service leader Joe Katusich said the service day is meant to honor 8-year-old Martin Richard, who died during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

“Martin’s message was always to choose kindness. He believed that everyone should have equal opportunity. He believed in, specifically, sportsmanship inclusion, kindness, and peace,” Katusich said.

The day’s programs worked to engage young people and help them learn about their impact on the community.

“Just cause I want to make the community as peaceful as I can. And I just try to do my part as the best I can,” 15-year-old Ava O’Brien said.
