Cambridge Store, Cornerstone To Community For Century, Closes Doors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Huron Village supermarket will close this Saturday after nearly a century of operation.

The Fresh Pond Market has been run by one family since 1922—and the residents in the neighborhood say they make everyone who goes into shop feel like family, too.

“I started getting emotional, you know, it’s embedded in all of our hearts and in our lives,” one regular at the store said. “They’ve treated all of us like family.”

Those who know the two brothers who run the store, Marc and Crosby, say they were a critical part of the community. They offered deliveries to the sick, free raisins for the kids who come in, and biscuits for local dogs—and even gave customers a two dollar bill on their birthday.

But as the brothers took care of their people, customers say it’s time they take care of themselves.

“They get to actually spend some quality time with their own family,” the same customer said. “Not be here the week of Christmas until midnight, 1 a.m., getting ready for the customers. They’ve earned it, they deserve it.”

True to their character as owning a small business, the brothers have sold their market to another local establishment.
