Mass. Driving Ranges Remain Closed As Golf Courses Begin To Open

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As golf courses across Massachusetts begin to reopen in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, driving ranges remain closed.

Bill Murphy, with Weathervane Golf Academy in Hingham, said that not being able to practice at driving ranges can hurt a player's golf game.

“It is surprising how people just can’t go and get a bucket of golf balls, whether it’s learning how to play or just to go out and practice," Murphy said. "You’re by yourself, concentrating on your sport.”

Muprhy said that the short game — including chipping, pitching, and putting — is "really where it counts."

According to Murphy, Weathervane Golf Academy has set up safety precautions, including spaced out driving bays and bleached range balls. But, they are still waiting on the okay to reopen.
