Weymouth's South Shore Health Making Hand Sanitizer For Staff

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With hand sanitizer in short supply during the coronavirus pandemic, South Shore Health in Weymouth has started making their own.

Chief pharmacy officer Kristopher Young told WBZ NewsRadio they have produced about a thousand 4-ounce bottles “for personal use across the organization.”

On March 15, the state’s Public Health Commission issued a declaration to all pharmacies saying that if they have the supplies, they can make hand sanitizer.

“These are things that we get revved up to do,” Young said. “We pulled the team together and said ‘how can we make this happen? What supplies do we have on hand?’”

The hospital has also started production of their own face shields. And Young said they’re ready to explore any option “whether it’s some plastic shields, hire seamstresses to make gowns because this is going to be a marathon.”
