Roxbury Hoop Hop Tournament Aims To Support Youth

BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Hoop Hop basketball tournament was held on Saturday at the Roxbury YMCA.

The tournament — meant to benefit area youth — consisted of teen and adult teams, made up primarily of members of the Greater Boston music community.

Local hip-hop artist Bakari J.B. founded the event.

“Creatives from the New England region basically just wanted to come together and use our actual notoriety in order to bring something positive to the community,” he said. “We’ve been able to give back to the kids.”

Free backpacks were handed out to young students.

Detroit Pistons player, and Boston native, Bruce Brown Jr. and Mayor Marty Walsh took part in the event.
