Teen Thrown From Pickup Truck In Serious Condition

TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police in Tyngsborough say that a Lowell teen is fighting for this life after he was thrown from the bed of a moving pickup truck Wednesday night.

Tyngsborough Police Chief Richard Howe tells WBZ NewsRadio Karyn Regal, that a the 17-year-old boy was found with life threatening injuries in the parking lot of Ayotte’s Stateline Smokin’ Joe’s Market on the Tyngsborough-Hudson, NH line shortly after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The store is in Hudson, New Hampshire, but most of the parking lot is in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts.

According to Howe, it appears that the teen and the driver of the 2000 GMC Senoma compact pickup truck, a 19-year-old man also from Lowell, were doing donuts in the parking lot when the younger boy was thrown from the bed of the pickup hitting his head on the concrete hard.

There was no blood Howe said but Tyngsborough Fire Fighters saw the urgency in getting the injured immediate care.

“I am sure that their quick actions saved this gentleman’s life,” he said.

The boy was brought to Lowell General Hospital then flown to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center by a medical helicopter.

“Last update we got on him was he went through testing last night.” Howe said. “They consider him a survivable injury now... so I wouldn’t call it a slight upgrade — he’s still in danger.”

Howe says that they have charged the driver of the pickup truck, with operating to endanger and driving an unregistered motor vehicle, he could have his license suspended and that additional charges may be added.
