South Boston Family Honors Son With Local Playgrounds

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In response to the tragic loss of their young boy, a South Boston family has launched Colin's Joy Project.

Last July, just before his third birthday, Colin and his older sister Sloane were on their way back to their South Boston home when two cars collided, sending one up onto the sidewalk and into Colin's stroler. Colin did not survive. Sloane has physically recovered after a number of surgeries.

"Though the grief we feel is insurmountable, the uprising of kindness we experienced in the wake of his death was comforting and moving," Colin's parents, Kerri and Conor McGrath, wrote on the project's website. "Colin's Joy Project was created with the intent to continue to weave joy into the lives of others as Colin did."

With a focus on enhancing play spaces and funding family-focused programming in South Boston, the McGraths already have two playgrounds and an outdoor reading area planned, according to WBZ-TV.
